Win $100 Worth of Cool Kitchen Tools

By Sandy Hu

All last week, Special Fork bloggers shared their favorite kitchen tools for Tool Week. We’ve gathered together some of their tool choices and some of our own favorites in a prize package for Special Fork’s first giveaway on Facebook, exclusively for Special Fork’s fans.

Fans must fill out a very short entry form to be eligible for the drawing. Contest closes on Sunday, November 20, 2011.

Dave and I went shopping at Sur la Table in San Francisco to buy the tools for our prize package and we found so many we love that we ended up exceeding our original budget of $75, taking the total value of our giveaway up to $100.

The video below introduces you to all the tools in our sweepstakes package. Whether you win the prize or not, we think these tools are worth having in your utensil drawer.

Here’s the prize list of tools by blogger:

I blog on Mondays, under the category, Inside Special Fork, directed to the entire Special Fork community. From my favorites on Monday’s post, we’ve selected:

  • Hutzler onion keeper
  • Joseph Joseph slotted spoon with elevated utensil head
  • Architec Hot Cooking Bands, heat resistant to 600° F

Katie Barreira blogs for our cooking newbie audience on Tuesdays. Her day job is as senior test kitchen associate at Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine. From Katie’s favorites on Tuesday’s post we selected:

  • Wooden citrus reamer
  • Bench scraper from a previous post (we bought the sturdy Sur la Table brand)

Lori Powell, food director of Prevention magazine and former food director of Real Simple magazine, blogs on Wednesdays addressing Special Fork visitors who are cooking for one or two. Her blogs on Special Fork are categorized under One or Two Bites. From Lori’s favorites on Wednesday’s post we selected:

  • OXO Good Grips 12-inch kitchen tongs with nylon heads

Husband and wife team, Andrew and Marilyn Hunter, parents of two boys, take turns blogging on Thursdays directed to Special Fork’s busy moms and dads. Their blogs are categorized under The Family Table. Andrew is a research and development chef for his own company, Culinary Craft. Before that, he was a vice president of culinary development at Wolfgang Puck. Marilyn helps with the family business. From Andrew’s favorites on Thursday’s post we selected.

  • Microplane zester

And we’ve included two other tools we like:

  • Progressive International Adjust-a-Slice Mandoline with three slicing thicknesses
  • Joseph Joseph Rocker, a stainless steel garlic crusher, that’s a hot new tool

Having the right tools can make cooking easier, more efficient and more fun. For basic tools, please check out Good Cooks Need the Right Tools. For knives, please review our primer on selecting knives by Craig Deppe.

Good luck!

Another excellent video, Sandy. Loved it. I also loved the onion keeper, slotted spoon, and cooking bands. :-)
