Supermarket Superstar Premiere

By Andrew Hunter
For The Family Table, a blog for busy families

I’m taking a brief respite from writing about the Hunter family table, Ben and Nick’s silly antics in the kitchen, and Marilyn’s well-crafted recipes, to tell you about something very exciting – Supermarket Superstar.

Supermarket Superstar is Lifetime’s all-new competition series that will give everyday Americans the chance to prove they have the next great product consumers will love. Premiering on Monday, July 22, at 10 ET/PT and hosted by Stacy Keibler, Supermarket Superstar gives undiscovered food entrepreneurs their chance to shine among the big brands in the highly competitive food industry.

I’m the research and development mentor on the series, which means I help the contestants understand how to mass-produce their family recipes for supermarket shelves. It was great fun to be on an enormous set with bright lights, scores of cameras and anxious contestants. I was lucky because I didn’t have to memorize lines or do planned things at certain times; instead I got to be myself, improvise and do what I do best … help people make good food better.

What differentiates Supermarket Superstar from other cooking shows is everyday people have a chance of capturing their dream. A dream of making their family proud and sharing a generational recipe with the nation. It’s a dream many of us share and aspire to. It’s also the first show of its kind to feature research and development, and the product commercialization process for retail food products.

I’m proud to be next to culinary greatness and a pioneer in chef-branded products: Chef Michael Chiarello, cookie mogul Debbi Fields of Mrs. Fields Cookies who personifies the show, food product visionary Chris Cornyn, and of course Stacy! My boys can’t wait to see me on TV where they’re used to watching baseball games. They’ll be tuning in with popcorn in hand … I hope you will too!
